Shelly Fredenberg - Tide Vessel 4

This beautiful stoneware bowl was made by ceramicist and sculptor Shelly Fredenberg of Eugene, Ore. Shelly's work is a tribute to the natural world, its processes and possibilities, as well as its impossibilities.  

This unique vessel was hand-thrown and has a textured glaze exterior and oxide and gloss glaze interior. The textured exterior is achieved by layering several to achieve an organic rawness that feels like something that has been tumbled, washed ashore, and bleached by sunlight.The oxides create the blue/green coloring found on the interior of the vessel and within the tiny cups. Sally hand-sculpts the textural cups and spikes and attaches them in a way that makes it appear they are growing directly from the vessel itself.
