This unique vessel was made by Sally Squire in Portland, Oregon. Sally hand-built this piece using porcelain clay mixed with paper fiber. The fibers then burn off during the firing process, leaving pure porcelain.
The translucent nature of the scutes (scutes are the bony plates or "shields" found on a variety animals such as turtles, alligators, and armadillos, to name a few) showcases Sally's skill at working with such a delicate medium, and the dark "fumes" are achieved with carbon ash.
This piece can be displayed in multiple ways in its acrylic case, making it perfect to move around your home whenever the mood strikes.
Dimensions : H 18" x W 4.5" (Dimensions are approximate).
