Shelly Fredenberg - Cascade Bowl

This beautiful stoneware bowl was made by ceramicist and sculptor Shelly Fredenberg of Eugene, Ore. Shelly's work is a tribute to the natural world, its processes and possibilities, as well as its impossibilities.  

This unique piece was wheel-thrown and has a raw clay body exterior and a gloss glazed interior. The iron and manganese-rich clay results in the rich chocolate brown exterior, and the glazed center transitions between lush blue/greens and warm golden browns. Shelly then adds the textural cups and spikes in a way that makes them appear they are growing directly from the vessel.
