Shelly Fredenberg - Wonderfire

$550.00

This beautiful stoneware vessel was made by ceramicist and sculptor Shelly Fredenberg of Eugene, Ore. Shelly's work is a tribute to the natural world, its processes and possibilities, as well as its impossibilities.

This piece was hand-built and was created from a single piece of clay: Shelly sinks her thumb into the center of the ball, and then slowly works outward, forming the swirling ridges.

It was fired in an anagama kiln, or "cave kiln," in Willamina, Ore. This type of kiln is fueled with firewood and requires continuous feeding and stoking, for a period of several days. The colors of this piece were created using an iron-rich clay in an oxygen-deprived atmosphere while cooling the kiln, also known as reduction cooling.

Dimensions: W 7" x H 6" (Measurements are approximate and taken at the widest points).
